Fact: During 16 seasons in the majors, Lowenstein arguably displayed more wild antics than actual baseball skill. In 1980, he was hit in the back of the neck while sliding into second base and taken off the field on a stretcher. As he reached the Orioles dugout, Lowenstein quickly sat up and pumped his fists to the crowd, later stating: “I had it planned halfway to the dugout.”
